![]() How do you connect to the borderline definition of the term “superstar” as coined by the Factory? Duran Duran were instant superstars in the early Eighties. There are few bands in the world who really lived up to the Warhol superstar ideal. But it was David Bowie, you know, so I took it as an honor. I met him in New York and he was really drunk. So when I met him I was completely awestruck. I idolized David Bowie much more than I did Andy Warhol. It was very different when I met David Bowie for the first time, though. It was easy.Įasy? You could go there because you were famous. Nick and I went to the Factory and met him there. I considered myself an artist, you know? It was a meeting of equals, really. How was it meeting Warhol for the first time in the early Eighties?įor me it was meeting another artist like myself. In the end I think Nick just liked the style of the story being told. You might not notice many similarities between our song and the Velvet’s original, but the echo of the original is there – even if the newscaster is a woman. Nick also had the idea of getting a newscaster to read a text in John Cale’s same deadpan voice at the end of our new song »The Man Who Stole a Leopard«. Nick came up with the association to the Velvet Underground song »The Gift« off of »White Light/White Heat« – now that is a weird song. Why not remind people of that? But there are hidden links as well. Well, we all knew Andy Warhol personally and we were very, very sad, when he died. You mean the silver paper on the wall? Like they used to wallpaper the Factory at Union Square? Oh yeah, of course this is a reference. The song offers a lot of Andy Warhol, at least in the corresponding video clip. Le Bon, ✺ll You Need Is Now« is the first single off of what’s supposed to become Duran Duran’s comeback album.
